GUATEMALA - May 28 - June 6
Guatemala - Central America
Leader: Ryan Johnston ryanj@myfaithbaptist.org
missionaries: all ages
The 411
Missionaries will spend time sharing the love of Christ by playing games and spending time with orphans at Amor Del Nino orphanage. There will also be a team doing light construction on houses in the village and a daily opportunity to build relationships with families in the village and encourage them in their faith and share the gospel.
How It Is
Sharing its northern border with Mexico, the official language of Guatemala is Spanish, however, where English is completely unknown, translators will be provided. 50 – 60% of the people are Catholic, however, more than one third are Protestant. Poverty is one of the greatest and growing concerns of the country, ranking in the top 10 poorest countries in Latin America. Approximately 29% of the population live below the poverty level.
How You’re Livin’
Missionaries will live in the Grace Ministries Mission House, which is fully self-contained.
Who They Are
Guatemalans are a very happy people and are extremely relational. Missionaries are encouraged to be open to meeting new people and making friends. Many people in the villages are flattered and enjoy when Americans attempt to speak Spanish with them. When planning what to wear, considerations for the country’s poverty is encouraged. Everything a person would wear should be able to get dirty. Tennis shoes or close toed shoes are strongly suggested.
WHY YOU SHOULD GO: Because there are orphans and people living in poverty who need to hear about a hope in a relationship with an all providing God and about how much Jesus loves them...

BELIZE June 20 - 27
Belize - Central America
Leader: Stephen Brannon stephenb@myfaithbaptist.org
missionaries: college students and high school juniors and seniors
The 411
The team will organize and lead a one week, summer youth camp for the youth of the community. The camp will be on the campus of the Belize Vo-Tech School. The teenage boys who live at the Vo-Tech School will be helping with the youth camp during the week. It’s through this camp, that missionaries will get the opportunity to strengthen the relationships of current believers and share the gospel with any and all nonbelievers.
How It Is
Generally known as one of the best snorkeling and scuba diving countries in the world, Belize is an incredibly beautiful place. The official language is English, but Spanish and Belizean Kriol are also extremely common. The official currency is the Belize dollar and the country is in the Central Standard Time zone. Temperatures range between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit during the spring months with temperatures being slightly higher inland. Missionaries are encouraged to dress conservatively and remain respectful of Central American culture.
How You’re Livin’
Missionaries will be staying on or near the Vo-Tech campus in very close proximity to the site of the youth camp.
Who They Are
The team will be working with area young people – mostly teen aged. Everyone in the community is very humble and very sincere. Missionaries would be wise to bring t-shirts and pants that they are not concerned about getting dirty with sweat or dirt. Closed toes shoes are needed as the campus is very earthy with dirt roads and sidewalks.
WHY YOU SHOULD GO: Because there are troubled youth who need to know that no matter what they have done or how tough things are, there is a new life possible in a relationship with Jesus Christ...

UGANDA June 26 - July 8
Kampala, Uganda - East Africa
Leader: Dawn Hutchison dhutch0319@yahoo.com
missionaries: college students
The 411
The team is coming to assist in door-to-door evangelism, to encourage the house church network, and to equip the lay leadership. We are hoping this team will be the catalyst for the start up of many new house churches. We also believe this team will strengthen the existing church through their love of the Ugandan people.
How It Is
Kampala is on 7 hills, Temps range from 70-90 year round. Even though the temp is not that high, being directly in the sun FEELS hotter than it is, and sunburns come much faster than anticipated. Uganda is ever changing as more influence comes from the West, though it is still deeply rooted in conservative dress and behavior. Most of the people we work with live in one room homes. They bathe in public bathing areas, cook outside, and share squatty potties/long-drops.
How You’re Livin’
Housing will be in a guest house. Most rooms are self-contained. Includes breakfast. It is within walking distance to an Italian run restaurant, and to the Baptist Mission offices. We know the staff quite well, as most visitors stay here.
Who They Are
People generally dress up when they are out of their house. Women must dress conservatively when ministering: dress or skirt that reaches the knee, no mid-driff shirts. Conservative sleevless shirts are ok (no tank-tops). Men wear polo type or short sleeved button-ups. No body piercings or men's earrings are acceptable. The T-shirt and sweats look is not respected and should be avoided when out of your guesthouse. **VISA** debit card can access Stateside money via ATMs.
The A&P
You will need to take prophlaxis for malaria. On rainy days, it rains a lot and you will need shoes that can get wet, muddy and dirty. On sunny days, the sun is intense since we are on the equator. You will need to bring sunscreen and perhaps a hat. You are not able to drink tap water here, but bottled water is abundant. Yellow fever and thypoid vaccines should be gotten in preparation to coming. Being able to walk around in the sun is a must.
WHY YOU SHOULD GO: Because there are whole people groups in sub-Saharan Africa who have never heard the soul-saving, life-changing name of Jesus...
